The EUDI Wallet Alongside the Identity Verification You Already Run [Intermediate]

Combined Session
Wednesday, November 18, 2026 10:50—11:10

The EUDI Wallet is often framed as a replacement for how we verify identity today. In practice it won't be, not for years. Adoption will be gradual and uneven, so your users will keep showing up in different ways - some with a wallet, many still with a document scan or an electronic IDV check. The wallet becomes one more method you support, not the only one, and since you can't predict which one a given user will bring, the system must handle all of them behind one consistent flow.

This session looks at what the wallet gives you - verifying and issuing credentials, for both consumers and businesses - and then at the part that's easy to underestimate: trust. Checking that a credential is genuine is the easy bit. The harder questions are whether the issuer was allowed to issue that specific attestation, and how you check that across 27 member states while a user waits. Business wallets add another layer: once companies issue credentials to each other, they need an agreed way to trust what the other side issued, with no ready-made list to fall back on the way there is for government identity. I'll talk through what we've run into building this for real and be honest about what's solved today and what still isn't.

You'll walk away with:

  • An approach for supporting every verification method at once — wallet, document, electronic IDV — since you can't know in advance which one a user will bring
  • Why issuing credentials into the wallet matters as much as verifying them
  • A realistic view of where EUDI trust holds up and where it doesn't yet — issuer authorisation, business-to-business trust, cross-border checks — and what to ask your vendors now
